To make life easier.

Samsung hosted select media inside Woolworths’ new food innovations centre at its Bella Vista headquarters to announce its partnership with the company and announce the local availability of its Family Hub refrigerator that, as an Australian-first, enables users to order groceries directly from the refrigerator via a customised Woolworths’ app.

Featuring a 21.5 inch LCD touchscreen, the Samsung Family Hub can seamlessly connect to a compatible smartphone via the Samsung Smart Home app. This allows grocery lists to be synced and the inside of the fridge to be viewed remotely thanks to the three cameras positioned inside the refrigerator. Expiration dates can also be dragged and dropped onto items.

StickiBoard allows users to share multiple calendars, posting photos and writing notes directly on the screen or with a compatible mobile device. The WhiteBoard can be used to write notes and draw pictures on the Family Hub, while the Photo Album displays daily photos and family images.

Consumers can also stream music directly from their refrigerator thanks to Pandora and Tunein Radio, as well as surf the internet using the web browser. AccuWeather will also give users weather updates.

More than 2,200 recipes feature on the Family Hub, with updates and new recipes added on a regular basis. Featured cooking ideas on the homepage will also be timed to appear according to whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner time.

The 671L Family Hub also features a Triple Cooling system. With three evaporators and a network of sensors, Triple Cooling is designed to maintain even humidity levels throughout the refrigerator to help provide precise temperature calibration.

The Samsung Family Hub refrigerator (SRF670HB) is available at select Harvey Norman stores in a black stainless steel design in a counter depth size for RRP $7,499. The Woolworths App will be made available during October 2016. More than half a million people shop with Woolworths online each month, with 200,000 using the Woolworths app.

Presenting the refrigerator, Samsung head of home appliances, Jeremy Senior said, “Samsung is constantly looking at ways we can innovate and bring new technology that makes the lives of Australian consumers easier, whether that be our Triple Cooling system, giving flexibility to keep food fresher for longer, the ability to change compartments around or the advancements made in design.”

“We know Australian consumers are using the kitchen more as the hub of the home and research suggests that the kitchen has become the meeting point where people gather around.

“The Four Door Flex technology gives you the benefit of a wide cavity that you would expect from a French door refrigerator, so the ability to store platters and plenty of food is made easier. We also have the fourth flexible compartment that can be used as a freezer or fresh food space. It is about innovating to make Australian’s lives easier,” he added.

“We are very pleased to announce that we are bringing the Family Hub refrigerator to Australia, available in selected stores from this week. This is a technology we have been very keen to bring to the Australian market with its features and benefits.

“One of the things we thought about when bringing this product to market was, how can we make it even more beneficial to Australian consumers? How can we make life even easier? It gives me great pleasure today to announce that we have formed an alliance with Woolworths and we will be bringing the Woolworths online shopping app directly onto the Family Hub refrigerator.

“It gives a lot of depth to consumers, whether they want to create a shopping list and pick it up in-store or create a shopping list and have it delivered or whether they want to select the ingredients from a recipe and put them straight into the cart,” Senior said.

Woolworths general manager for digital, Kate Langford added, “Today, we are delighted to announce the partnership with Samsung. It is an exciting collaboration as we focus on solving customer problems and add convenience to people’s busy lives. We are very much focused on creating great experiences and The Family Hub is the perfect example of being right at the centre of what is most important to our customers, which is the kitchen.”

“It gives our customers easy access to shopping categories, recipes online shopping or to plan for the store visit. It’s all about making our customers’ lives easier and bringing food to the centre of the home,” she said.
