NSW Fair Trading statistics reveal.

The number of complaints lodged by consumers with NSW Fair Trading has increased by 9% year-on-year, with electrical appliances and whitegoods taking out second spot in the top ten complaints.

In the 2015-16 financial year, NSW consumers lodged 51,221 complaints on a range of issues and industries, up from the 46,973 lodged in the previous year.

Tenancy, rental bonds and residential parks were the most complained about industries for the second year in a row, attracting more than 4,500 complaints.

NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe reminded consumers to take advantage of Fair Trading support. “If consumers have concerns that are not being met, Fair Trading intervention can help deliver a remedy,” he said.

Top ten complaints 2015-16

  1. Tenancy, rental bonds, residential parks – 4,584 complaints
    2. Electric appliances, white goods – 3,300
    3. Used car sales – 2,773
    4. House construction – 2,536
    5. Furniture, manchester – 2,339
    6. Clothing, footwear, accessories, jewellery – 2,265
    7. New car sales – 1,695
    8. Travel, tourism – 1,674
    9. Car repairs and maintenance – 1,478
    10. Property, purchase or resale – 1,220

The most common complaints for 2015-16 were largely unchanged from the previous year, with new car sales and travel and tourism the only industries to move up the list by one.
