Roll-out expected in coming months.

It’s taken 30 years but US retailer J.C. Penny is back in the home appliances business.  The department store chain will start rolling out this summer with new home appliance showrooms in about 500 stores.

It follows a 22-store pilot program earlier this year that resulted in a strong response from customers.  It is understood that brands will include Samsung, General Electric, LG and Hotpoint.  Appliances will also be available online.

One of the reasons for the re-entry into kitchen and laundry products is that these appliances continue to be an important mix in the bricks and mortar business as demand increases, helped by a revived housing market.
