Our good friends over at Mumbrella are today reporting that Samsung Electronics Australia marketing head Arno Lenior is leaving the Korean technology giant.

“To be afforded the opportunity to be the chief marketing officer of one of the world’s most enviable brands is a real privilege,” Lenior is quoted as saying. “My ambition was to continue to build the brand by delivering world-class campaigns and I am confident that this has been achieved.”

Lenior took over Samsung marketing from Lambro Skropidis, who had left to join rival Korean brand LG Electronics in 2012. Lenior had previously working in consultancy and the liquor industry.

Lenior’s departure follows the resignation of PR and communications chief Richard Noble, first exclusively revealed by UnderCurrent. This leaves a significant mar-comms power vacuum and the famous brand.

During his time at the helm of Samsung’s sizable and well-funded marketing team, Lenior has overseen activations including the sponsorship of the Sydney Opera House, partnerships with Australian Rugby Union and the recruitment of high profile spokes-celebrities including James Magnussen, Alex “Chumpy” Pullin and Guillaume Brahimi.

Samsung has gained significant share as a result of these endeavours though not everything has been a winner. Samsung has struggled to implement a coherent marketing plan for its major cooking appliance range and its Galaxy S5 TV advertisements were largely incomprehensible.

No replacement has yet been named.
