If the smartphone has replaced the designer handbag as the modern display of fashionable taste and social cachet, then Samsung has certainly hit the nail on the head with its latest promotion.

The Korean consumer electronics brand is offering its customers the chance to trade in their old phone for “fashion dollars” at online apparel and accessories retailer The Iconic. The creatively-titled “Phones for Fashion” campaign is open to consumers who buy any new Galaxy smartphone device at participating retailers including Dick Smith, Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys. After purchasing their new device, consumers can then go onto the Phones for Fashion website, value their old handset and upload their proof of purchase to be sent a gift voucher for The Iconic.

The promotion is run in conjunction with Bounce Mobile, a company that offers cash for old mobile phones that are then recycled; full details about the Phones for Fashion campaign can be found here.
