Speaking about his appointment, Lynton already seemed to have a good handle on Samsung’s corporate agenda in the industry.

“It’s a great time to be joining the Samsung IT division, especially with the upcoming launch of the ATIV Windows 8 Smart PCs range – which will seek to offer a unique set of services and content experiences along with some of the very latest cross-category design principles,” he said.

“Samsung is a strong competitor with solid momentum in the IT area, the goal is to push the boundaries of innovation and drive the division towards market leadership. Key to our success will be our commitment to driving the value proposition and awareness of the digital convergence experiences that Samsung offer.”

Prior to joining Samsung, Lynton was country manager for Australia, New Zealand and Singapore for the personal fitness tracking device company Fitbit. He has also held roles at Panasonic, Polaroid, Olympus and Cisco, where he was managing director (ANZ) for consumer products, and he has more than 20 years of experience in IT product management and marketing.

The position of director of the Samsung IT division was previously held by Tony Ignatavicius.
