At midnight tonight Microsoft’s new software platform, Windows 8, will officially go on sale.

The new user interface has a strong focus on touch capability and features a home screen made up of colourful tiles that provide live updates on everything from calendar appointments to social media activity.

As the supposed future of Microsoft software arrives, let’s take a moment to look back to the launch of Windows 95 all those years ago.

It was a simpler time. A time when Appliance Retailer (UnderCurrent’s parent magazine) was just finding its feet and when something as simple as a Start button could get people excited about personal computing.

It was also at the height of Hulk Hogan’s wrestling career, which is the only possible thing that could explain this fellow’s bandana choice.

But he doesn’t care. He’s winning at life… and at Windows.

(Hat tip to the Harvey Norman social media team, who used this image – along with countless others – to gear up customers for tonight's launch).
